My wooden bases come in Ash, Oak, Elm and Scots Pine
The wood I choose to use is hand turned here in Scotland. Each wooden base is unique with its rings, rays & knots which adds to the beauty and can’t be predetermined as it’s from the felled tree.
The base above is showing what’s called Medullary rays. There is nothing wrong with it. Wood is a natural material with natural variations and because it’s handmade it will always be unique.
Some of the wood will come with knots and these are common and normal to see in the wood. As the tree was growing a smaller branch died or had been damaged but the tree itself kept growing and grew around the dead branch therefore creating a knot.
